BRISBANE — Glitter Records, a well‑known spot for vinyl culture in Brisbane, has consigned 150 records to the Institute of Modern Art in Fortitude Valley.

This marks a new collaboration between the city’s independent music scene and one of its major contemporary art institutions.

The Institute of Modern Art is based in the Judith Wright Arts Centre in Fortitude Valley. For more than forty years, it has presented exhibitions, public programs, and publishing projects. It supports experimental and critical artistic practice. The Institute of Modern Art Shop extends this work by offering artist‑made goods, books, and other cultural objects that sit alongside its exhibitions.

Riley Fitzgerald, owner of Glitter Records, said the partnership began with a simple request from Shae Craze, Gallery Coordinator at the Institute of Modern Art.

The collaboration creates a link between two creative communities.

Glitter Records and the IMA Store Establish a Fortitude Valley Collaboration

“I’m glad to be in conversation with institutions like the IMA,” Riley says. “When I dropped off the records, Shae and I spoke about the Institute of Modern Art’s work with MONO — their long‑running experimental‑sound program curated by Lawrence English — and how it connects with Brisbane’s wider sound and music community. We also spoke about the pleasure of album art and the more exploratory edges of music. Glitter shares many of these interests with the IMA. Fortitude Valley has been an important part of Brisbane’s music life for a long time. It feels meaningful to keep building these connections.”

The consigned titles span many genres and seven decades. The selection focuses on ambient and avant‑garde music. This reflects Glitter Records’ broad identity and the IMA Store’s interest in expanding the cultural textures in its retail space.

For the Institute of Modern Art Store, the collaboration adds a tactile and analog element to its exhibitions. It also expands its music collection, which already includes the Sound Offering series, a group of experimental lathe‑cut records first produced through Boxcopy. For Glitter Records, the partnership offers a new audience for its vinyl archive and a fresh context for discovery.

Selections from the collection will be available for purchase in the Institute of Modern Art Shop when it reopens on 24 January 2026.
