In a new interview with Apple Music, Kevin Parker has revealed details about new single ‘It Might Be Time’ and fourth Tame Impala album The Slow Rush.

“Nobody is relieved as me,” Parker confided when asked about announcing his new album and single.

He then shared thoughts on the creative process behind ‘It Might Be Time’.

“It was kind of just one of those ones that was just a late-night-see-where-it-goes kind of thing,” he enthused. “I love those Supertramp melodies, those ’70s prog, emotional things. But I also love extremely distorted bombastic, blown-out drums. I feel like I haven’t done a song in a long time where the drums are the main feature.”

Parker also talked about being labeled as a perfectionist.

“I don’t like to openly call myself a perfectionist,’ he reflected. “I still don’t really think I am because there are so many things about my music and output that I consider extremely imperfect. I guess it’s difficult to let go of things because things can always be better.”

He also revealed why The Slow Rush, which was expected to arrive in April, has taken longer to complete.

“This album still is the album I’ve been working on for the shortest amount of time,” he reflected. “But I did want to get it out for the US summer.”

The wait though, Parker assured, was necessary.

“This feels right,” he continued. “Things have just fallen into place so much more for me with the music… It would have been rushed if it was anything other than this.”

He remained tight-lipped as to whether Tame Impala had any surprises between now and when the album arrives on February 14.

“I guess I just wait patinetley,” he concluded.
