Paul McCartney’s 2010 Isle Of Wight Performance Is Streaming In Full This Weekend

Paul McCartney‘s 2010 Isle of Wight Festival appearance had a special significance for the Beatle.

When McCartney was 16-years old, he and a young John Lennon would hitchhike to the southern English island to vacation at a pub owned by relatives.

The experience left a strong impression on the Liverpudlian, who would later sing about it in 1965 Beatles single ‘Day Tripper’.

In the summer of 1969, he again visited the isle with soon-to-be-disbanded Beatles to witness Bob Dylan in action.

In 2010 he returned to perform at The Isle of Wight Festival.

Paul McCartney may be modern music’s cheesy grandad,” The Guardian wrote of the performance, “but he has the mightiest canon in a century or so at his disposal and he did not scrimp. Twenty-five songs, including ‘Paperback Writer’, a ukelele take on ‘Something’ and a jaw-dropping run of ‘Hey Jude’, ‘Daytripper’, ‘Get Back’, ‘Yesterday’ and ‘Helter Skelter’ put the career-wringing likes of ‘Ocean Colour Scene’ and the ‘Alarm’ firmly in their place.”

This weekend, the Isle of Wight Festival is streaming McCartney’s performance as part of a virtual concert series.

The event is taking place in lieu of the annual festival, which was forced to cancel due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the UK.

This decision has not been taken lightly and we have tried our hardest to make it work,” the event’s organizers shared in March, “but it was unavoidable given the current status. The whole team was excited to welcome everyone to the island for another fantastic festival and we extend our sincere apologies to everyone who was looking forward to it as much as we were.”

Fans can stream McCartney’s performance Saturday 11.30 pm  UK time via Sky Arts.
