On this day in 2007,” Jimmy Page writes, “I performed at the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute at the O2 with Led Zeppelin.”

Fuelled by rehearsals,” he continues, recounting Zeppelin’s first live performance since 1988,  “the day had arrived to play the O2. The production rehearsals and soundcheck had revealed colors and textures unique to each and the confidence and attitude was outstanding. But now this was it. There was no warm-up gig; it was time to reveal the work we had put into the rehearsals and the set.⁣⁣⁣”

Only one show,” he reflects, “and we were magnificent. ⁣Magnificent in the rehearsals and magnificent in the show.”⁣

Page was allegedly open to continuing with more Led Zeppelin performances following the reunion.

We had four guys on top of their game,” he enthused in an interview with MSN.com shortly to the shows, “and then those four combined to make a fifth element, which took them even further.”

Robert Plant, however, was insistent the event be a one-off.

This is consistent with recent interviews in which Plant has described his Zeppelin days as “tremendous” yet “frustrating.”

Plant has also confided that he struggles to relate to the group’s biggest hit ‘Stairway To Heaven.’

Plant’s mind, it seems, is fixed upon the future.

He is adamant that his destiny sits past Zeppelin.

And this would align with the views of many fans who, of course, belive that John Bonham‘s death meant that Zep’s last appearance at July 7th concert in Berlin in 1980.

Zeppelin’s o2 performance was captured and released as the Celebration Day album and concert film.
