Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker Reveals He Almost Gave ‘The Less I Know The Better’ To Mark Ronson In New Interview

‘The Less I Know The Better’ is Tame Impala‘s biggest song.

To date, the Currents single wracked up 453 million plays on Spotify alone.

Parker also recently shared that, thanks to some viral love from several thousand Tik Tok users, had become Tame’s first platinum-selling single.

I gave it to Mark Ronson for his album,” Parker reveals in a new interview with GQ.

Fortunately – and not for his good friend Mark Ronson –  he had a change of heart.

But I took it back,” he adds, “I was putting off telling him that I wanted to use it for me.”

Having decided to do so, Parker found himself in a difficult situation.

I was in America recording with him for a few days,” Kev shares, “[And] I was like, ‘OK now, [I’ve] got to tell him I want it for me.’ When I finally mustered up the strength, he was like, ‘Oh yeah, dude, I was going to say this song is yours. I feel like I’ve stolen your hard drive!’ He was thinking the same thing.’

One of Parker’s biggest fans, Ronson was the first person to publicly praise Tame Impala’s forthcoming album The Slow Rush.

I don’t know if he regrets it now,” Parker concludes. “I don’t know if he knows how successful it is… and if he realized the song was going to be as successful back then. He’s obviously not exactly kicking himself.”

In the interview, Parker also emphasized his Beatle-like maxim of taking care never to make the same album twice.

I could make ‘Innerspeaker 2.0’ in about 24 hours,” he contended, “because I know exactly how to. But I think that would sound really boring.

The Slow Rush will arrive on February 14th.
