The British National Trust is looking for a volunteer with “accurate historical knowledge” to bring the “early years of two of the Beatles‘ story to life”.

With 71-year-old Sylvia Hall, who has guided curious members of the public through the childhood homes of Paul McCartney and John Lennon for several years retiring, the Trust has found itself shorthanded.

Paul’s childhood home is located at 20 Forthlin Road in Allerton Liverpool.

McCartney lived in the home between ages 5 and 22.

The humble abode, who the McCartney recently revisited for the first time in half a century, is a site where as many as 100 of the Beatles songs were composed.

John Lennon‘s home is located on 251 Menlove Avenue, Woolton.

Here Lennon lived with his Aunt Mimi from the age of five until he was 22.

Lennon and McCartney would often rehearse at both proprieties.

I’m always very aware I represent the McCartney family,” Sylvia Hall shared of McCartney’s home. “I am very careful to do lots of research and Mike McCartney [Paul McCartney‘s brother] has been very helpful with stories about the house. Paul McCartney has been a daily part of my life for eight years.

Hall has also given tours to celebrity visitors including Blondie‘s Debbie Harry, James Taylor and Jackson Browne.

I’ve had eight very enjoyable years meeting people from all over the world,” she continued. “I will miss the people.”

Simon Osborne, general manager of the National Trust’s Liverpool properties, has further outlined what is expected of the position: “We’re really looking for someone who has a passion for bringing the early years of two of the Beatles’ story to life.”

The successful candidate,” he continues, “must be as enthusiastic about helping to care for these important places of music history as they are about caring for our visitors. This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity for any fan of the Beatles who is the right person for the job.”

John Lennon famously namechecked the National Trust in White Album song ‘Happiness Is A Warm Gun’.
