Tame Impala’s ‘The Slow Rush’ Debuts At Number 3 In The US

Tame Impala‘s fourth album The Slow Rush has debuted at Number 3 in the Billboard 200 charts.

Kevin Parker and the company’s highest charting record to date, The Slow Rush has moved 110,000 equivalent album units.

(For those unfamiliar, one equivalent album unit comprises of either a single album sale, 10 song downloads or 1,500 streams.)

Of these 110,00 units, 80,000 were actual album sales.

Billboard also notes the album’s above-average popularity on vinyl.

32% of the album’s first-week sales,” the company reports, “were generated by its vinyl configuration. The set sold just under 26,000 vinyl copies — the seventh-biggest sales week for a vinyl album since Nielsen Music/MRC Data began tracking music data in 1991.”

By way of contrast, Tame Impala‘s third album Currents, which debuted at Number 4 in 2015, clocked in 45,000 album sales.

Billboard also notes that The Slow Rush‘s sales figures would actually be higher, but a concert ticket-album promotion associated with Tame Impala’s upcoming US tour alongside other merchandise-album sale promotions available via the band’s website preclude a number of sales from the official count.

Beating Tame Impala to the Number One spot was Justin Bieber‘s new album Changes.

A Boogie Wit da Hoodie’s Artist 2.0 came in at Number Two.

The news follows the announcement that The Slow Rush debuted at Number 3 in the UK and Number One in Tame Impala’s home country Australia.
