A charity barbeque held last Sunday by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Mac Demarco has raised $210,000 (Australian) for bushfire relief efforts.

Thank you to everyone who attended and donated!” Penny Drop, a co-organizer of the Melbourne event, writes via Instagram. “$210,000 will be shared between Wildlife Victoria and the Fire Relief Fund for First Nations Communities. Well done Melbourne!

The news follows King Gizzard’s announcement that the group had also raised $50,000 for bushfire charity within just five days of the release of albums Live In Adelaide ’19 and Live In Paris ’19.

With the group releasing a third live album and all three of these records now in the Australian Albums Chart, it is likely the figure will continue to grow.

Furthermore, Gizzard has also donated several thousands of dollars worth of memorabilia and other oddments to their label Flightless to auction via eBay.

Fellow Australian act Tame Impala has also announced just this morning that it will also be donating $300,000 to bushfire fund relief efforts.

From January 27th until February 9th, the band will tour Australia as part of Laneway Festival.

After this, three members of King Gizzard will participate in a live reimagining of the score from 1977 horror film Suspiria at the Melbourne Art Center March 1.

Following this, the group will depart for the US to play two marathon three-hour sets and more than a dozen other US dates, including an appearance at mega-festival Coachella as well as Bonnaroo.
