Tame Impala Performs ‘Is It True’ On ‘Stephen Colbert’

Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker has performed ‘Is It True’ on Stephen Colberts The Late Show.

Is It True‘ is a new number from Tame Impala’s fourth studio album The Slow Rush.

Young love is uncertain,” Kevin Parker wrote of the song in an Apple Music reflection which followed the album’s release. “Let’s not talk about the future. We don’t know what it holds. I hope it’s forever but how do I know? When all is said and done, all you can say is ‘we’ll see.’

Many fans believe the song is biographical, chronicling Parker’s early romance with partner Sophie Lawrence Parker, who he married in April 2019.

Parker recently gave another of his new songs ‘On Track‘ a solo acoustic treatment for Australian Covid-19 benefit Music From The Home Front.

Here on The Late Show, Parker continues to toy with the idea of a quarantine performance, layering three separately filmed segments together to, in effect, create his own backing band.

(This inspiration may come from Parker’s favorite acts Outkast, whose Andre 3000 memorably deployed the similar Doggleganger band in the film clip for the group’s 2003 single ‘Hey Ya!‘.)

Parker has not been one to sit idle while in isolation.

In recent weeks he has released collaborative single ‘Call My Phone Thinking I’m Doing Nothing Better‘ with The Streets, interviewed Def Jam producer Rick Rubin for podcast Broken Record, shared secrets of his creative process for an episode of Song Exploder, dropped in on friend Mark Ronson‘s livestream DJ set, appeared on London radio station NTS’ livestream event ‘Future Utopias’ and sharing a remixed version of his fourth album titled The Slow Rush In An Imaginary Place.
