It’s been a long-accepted theory amongst King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard fans (the basis of more than a few Gizzverse conspiracy theories) that the band’s go-to designer Jason Galea drew inspiration for the cover of the band’s fifth album I’m In Your Mind Fuzz from the cover of obscure ’80s videogame Fortress.

Posting on Instagram today, Jason has finally spoken publicly about the connection

I wanted to recreate the artwork as an album cover but couldn’t find the original artist,” he revealed, “only a credit to a lost company called ‘Image Creations’. I ended up repainting the whole thing dot by dot. It wasn’t my hand but I reasoned that at least it was my own dots.⁣”

Jason has since uncovered the identity of the game’s little known artist, Louis Saekow.

He’s the creator of 800+ game box art titles from the early 80’s &’ 90’s,” Jason goes on to state. “We’ve been in touch and Louis is not only humble and wise, but accepted my apology for the lack of credit.”

The Gizz artist has also stated his intention to take better care crediting the artist’s work moving forward and also noted that future versions of the Mind Fuzz will reference Saekow.

While Saekow hasn’t picked up a brush in 20 years, Jason also expressed interest in working on a collaborative project in future.
