Accompanying wife Polly Sampson on a book tour for her new novel A Theatre for Dreamers, Pink Floyd‘s David Gilmour will perform a new song this March.
Titled ‘Yes, I Have Ghosts’ the song was co-written by Sampson who in past served as Pink Floyd’s lyricist on post-Roger Waters album The Division Bell.
Gilmour’s new number takes inspiration from an unspecified character in A Theatre for Dreamers.
(One of which is Leonard Cohen.)
Semi-retired, though not by his own admission, Gilmour’s recent musical output has been sparse.
In fact, he has not released any new material since 2015 solo album Rattle That Lock.
Gilmour has not stated whether ‘Yes, I Have Ghosts’ will tie with any other new music, though this seems unlikely given Gilmour’s recent remark on Pink Floyd’s The Later Years podcast that he had no immediate plans to release music.
Having said this, Gilmour has hinted at the possibility of new Pink Floyd material in the future.
“There’s a whole archive there of new material, unreleased material and material that has got to written in future,” he shared. “You haven’t heard the last of it.”
“Very much looking forward to these #ATheatreForDreamers live events in Birmingham, Manchester & London with @PollySamson to celebrate her wonderful new novel,” Gilmour writes of his upcoming appearance via his Instagram. “I’ll be performing a few songs, including a new one – Yes, I Have Ghosts – which we wrote together, inspired by one of the characters in the book.”
Of the book itself, publisher Bloomsbury describes A Theatre for Dreamers as, “a spellbinding novel about utopian dreams and innocence lost – and the wars waged between men and women on the battlegrounds of genius.”
Set in the 1960s it chronicles the lives of a circle of poets, painters, and musicians living on the Greek Island of Hydra.
The serene setting unravels as writer Axel Jensen, wife Marianne Ihlen, and a young Canadian poet named Leonard Cohen find themselves ensnared in a tangled love triangle.
