Of the best 100 songs of 2019, Treblezine has ranked Tame Impala‘s ‘Borderline‘ at #98.

The answer to a few too many Tame Impala-starved years,” contributor Virginia Croft succinctly writes, “‘Borderline’ delivers their warm brand of jangly psych-rock, Kevin Parker leading us one step further into his subconscious.”

It’s adjacent to Tame’s typical sound,” she then adds, noting the single’s marked difference from Tame’s Currents, Lonerism and InneraSpeaker era material,  “yet otherworldly.”

“Perhaps Parker has dropped the need to stick to his square of familiarity,” she suggests, “branching out into more experimental, Brian Eno-esque soundscapes.”

There’s an inside-out effect to the track,” she finally concludes, “whooshing synths dropping in and out to make us feel like we’re falling deeper into the psychedelic rabbit hole.”

‘Borderline’, initially released as a standalone single but recently confirmed to be part of Tame Impala’s fourth album The Slow Rush, came in just after Cass McCombs‘ ‘Sleeping Volcanos’ at #97 and before Dababy‘s ‘Suge’ at #99.

#1 placement went to ‘Ashes to Ashes’ by Norwegian experimental artist Jenny Hval.

Tame Impala‘s fourth album, The Slow Rush will arrive on February 14.
