Pink Floyd’s Final Live Perfomance To Be Released As 2020 Record Store Day Exclusive

Record Store Day will arrive once again on June 20, 2020.

And, once again, vinyl lovers will be able to lay their hands upon several Record Store Day-only exclusives.

Included in an initial list of this year’s releases is a Pink Floyd recording of ‘Arnold Layne’, captured at the group’s 2007 Madcap’s Last Laugh reunion concert.

The event, Pink Floyd’s last ever public performance, was organized to pay tribute to the band’s fallen creative visionary Syd Barrett.

(After living in seclusion for some 30 years, Barrett had passed away in July the previous year.)

Held at London’s Barbican Centre, the night held many surprises, including an appearance by Roger Waters as well as David Gilmour, Rick Wright, and Nick Mason temporarily ending their longstanding Pink Floyd hiatus to perform ‘Arnold Layne’ and ‘Bike’.

Laced with Barrett’s surrealistic lyricism, ‘Arnold Layne’ was first released in March 1967.

Pink Floyd’s debut single was produced by the band’s early manager Joe Boyd in January that year, shortly before the group signed to EMI records to record Piper At The Gates Of Dawn.

Despite being banned from several prominent radio stations due to it’s lyrical allusions to mens wearing women’s clothes, the support of a Pink Floyd’s large underground fanbase in addition to some unscrupulous single purchases by the band’s management ensured the single reached number 20 in the UK charts.

The band would quickly follow up with ‘See Emily Play’ and the rest, as they say, is history.

Other acts releasing vinyl-only exclusives on Record Store Day will include John Lennon, David Bowie, Black Sabbath, and the Grateful Dead.
